STORY OF THE TWINS

Even before the arrival of Japanese in Lipa, the people of Marawoy has a strong devotion to the STO. NIÑO.

In a tiny parcel of land where the Barangay hall now stands, they built a small chapel devoted to the Child Jesus.

According to a story, it was sometime in 1942 when an unexpected longer dry hot summer season in Lipa happened which made it almost impossible to grow vegetables in the farm. Being agriculturally dependent for their livelihood, many sought refuge in prayer to the STO. NIÑO to bring rain to their farmlands.

On June 1, that year, their prayers were heard. The rain poured hard soaking the land of the farmers with much needed water. With thankful hearts, people started to troop back to their farmland.  To the surprise of everyone, they found an image of STO NIÑO standing in a land they were about to till. The farmers immediately brought the image to their Chapel and had the image placed beside the existing image which they have long used in their prayers. This paved the way for the people to call the two images “Ang KAMBAL na STO. NIÑO ng LIPA” or the TWIN STO. NIÑO of LIPA.

Today, the image found in the farmland is at the Altar of the Parish of STO. NIÑO DE LIPA in Marawoy, Lipa City while the twin can be invited to homes of devotees under the program called BISITANIÑO.
